So, at twenty three years what has my life been like living with Spina Bifida?
I will tell ya, it has been far from easy!! But having this birth defect hasn't been a complete nightmare either...
When most babies are learning to crawl, and walk I was still struggling with the use of my legs, but I sure had one huge
motor mouth! According to my mother, I was anything but a quiet child. The one thing about me that was always with me, even
then, was my love for music and mom tells me I used to sing and sing and sing, until her or my dad would have to tell me it
was bedtime.
School was always a huge battlefield, with being teased and ridiculed for my bad leg but even then it wasnt all bad, because
even though I seriously struggled with math (and still do!), I was almost always at a higher reading level then my school
mates, and my spelling was consistently the best in the class.
I of course had to miss out quite a bit of school for Spina Bifida clinic (where all my specialists took turns examining
my current medical well being, etc). Renal scans, and all that but in the end I did try to lead as normal a life as possible.
So yes I have had multiple Cat Scans, MRIs, Xrays, and other various medical tests and scans.... but to this day, I still
try to take it all with a grain of salt, and just get it done and over with so I can keep doing what I love, which is live
the life I have, goofing off with friends, and of course focusing on my music and other interests such as photography and
poetry.
